About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier

As an on-call relief carrier with Canada Post, you’ll be responsible for sorting and delivering mail items safely and on time across rural and suburban routes. You’ll need to quickly familiarize yourself with local roads, customer locations, and delivery receptacles to keep things running smoothly. You’ll also process various Canada Post products and services, including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB).

Safety and professionalism are central to this role. You’ll be required to wear your Canada Post identification visibly while on delivery and ensure all mail remains secure at all times. The role involves physical demands — you’ll need to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs (22.7 kg) — and you must be comfortable operating your own motor vehicle under a variety of driving conditions.

Responsibilities

Day-to-day work as an on-call mail carrier at Canada Post keeps you active, on the road, and in direct service of your community. Each shift involves a mix of sorting, organizing, and delivering mail items efficiently and safely across assigned rural and suburban routes.

• Sort and deliver mail items safely and in a timely manner across rural and suburban routes
• Collect mail from customers and ensure all items remain secure throughout delivery
• Learn and maintain knowledge of local roads, infrastructure, customers, and delivery receptacles
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear Canada Post identification visibly at all times while on delivery
• Lift and carry mail items and parcels weighing up to 50 lbs (22.7 kg)
• Operate a personal motor vehicle in various weather and traffic conditions safely and professionally

Requirements / Skills

Canada Post is looking for candidates who are organized, dependable, and comfortable working independently on the road. A strong safety mindset and the ability to adapt to changing conditions are essential qualities for success in this on-call carrier role. French language proficiency is mandatory for this position in Sherbrooke.

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a current driver’s abstract dated within the last 30 days will be required
• Personal vehicle meeting Canada Post’s specifications — minimum cargo capacity of 50 cu ft (1,415 litres), automatic transmission, power windows, metal roof-top, and accessory power outlet
• Valid automobile liability insurance covering vehicle use for Canada Post delivery duties
• French language proficiency (French Essential — this is a requirement for Sherbrooke)
• Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in all types of weather and traffic conditions
• Physical capability to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
• Must reside within 75 km of the Sherbrooke Post Office (preferred)
