Role of the Ontologist
As an Ontologist at Amazon, you will develop semantically rich, logical, and scalable data models that enhance product discovery. You’ll collaborate with various teams to ensure the ontologies you create are available for machine ingestion and inference, ultimately improving the customer and seller experiences on Amazon’s platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Modeling: Develop comprehensive and scalable data models for Amazon’s product catalog.
- Collaboration: Work with data scientists and engineers to create knowledge-based solutions.
- Optimization: Analyze metrics to improve knowledge graph data models globally.
- Innovation: Create schemas using Generative AI and expand data retrieval techniques.
Compensation & Benefits
The base pay for this role ranges from $74,400 to $166,500 annually, depending on location, experience, and skills. Amazon offers a total compensation package, including equity, sign-on payments, and a comprehensive benefits package to support your well-being and career growth.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
- Degree in Library Science, Information Systems, Linguistics, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience in ontology and taxonomy roles.
- Familiarity with Semantic Web technologies (RDF/s, OWL), query languages (SPARQL).
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in relevant fields.
- Experience in e-commerce and semantic search spaces.
- Proficiency in SQL, SPARQL.
- Familiarity with data science and machine learning concepts.
