About the Role: Data Center Controls Engineer
This position places you at the core of AWS data centre construction and operations. You’ll manage vendor relationships, review MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) drawings, develop controls bills of material, and financially oversee both construction and service contracts. Your work directly ensures that AWS data centres operate safely and efficiently across Canada.
Beyond deployment, you’ll be involved in control logic programming, graphical user interface development, and quarterly BMS/EPMS maintenance scheduling. You’ll collaborate closely with design teams by reviewing sequences of operation and providing technical feedback, while also supporting internal customers throughout the full data centre lifecycle.

Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll take ownership of the full lifecycle of data centre automation systems — from planning and deployment to ongoing maintenance and optimization. Your work touches everything from vendor oversight and contract management to hands-on control logic development, making this a wide-ranging and technically demanding position.
- Manage deployment of BMS and EPMS systems for AWS data centre construction projects
- Ensure compliance with scope of work (SOW) and technical specifications across all controls deployments
- Review and provide feedback on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) drawings
- Develop controls bills of material (BOM) and manage construction and service contract budgets
- Act as project sponsor/lead, overseeing vendor and contractor relationships
- Perform root cause analysis on controls issues affecting AWS data centres
- Schedule and supervise quarterly maintenance for BMS and EPMS systems
- Develop and modify control logic programming and graphical user interfaces
- Participate in a global on-call rotation schedule
Requirements / Skills
The ideal candidate brings a strong technical background in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field, combined with real-world experience in data centre environments or comparable critical infrastructure. - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with BMS and EPMS or comparable power management and monitoring systems
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and Windows Operating Systems
- 5+ years of project management in data centres or critical infrastructure (preferred)
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations including NFPA, NEC, OSHA, BOCA, and Life Safety standards (preferred)
- Experience reading construction specifications and drawings across all engineering domains (preferred)
- Deep understanding of electrical and mechanical data centre infrastructure operations (preferred)
