About the Role: Maintenance Assistant

As a Maintenance Assistant, your primary focus is on maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the entire Optical Lab facility to meet Costco’s high company standards. You’ll be responsible for cleaning floors, emptying and operating trash and cardboard compactors, washing windows, changing light bulbs, and responding quickly to spills. Beyond routine cleaning, you’ll also assist with concrete floor repairs, painting, and monitoring cleaning supply inventory.

This role also involves contributing to grounds maintenance — including snow and ice removal, leaf blowing, litter pickup, and periodic roof checks. You’ll be expected to follow all safety and security procedures consistently, operate the internal maintenance system (Interal), and support the team with internal and external purchases as needed.

Responsibilities

The Maintenance Assistant role at Costco’s Kitchener Optical Lab is varied and active. Each day brings a mix of routine cleaning tasks, facility upkeep, and support duties that keep the lab safe, organized, and up to standard for employees, members, and suppliers alike.

  • Clean floors throughout offices, the break room, restrooms, the production floor, and other facility areas; change scrubber water frequently to minimize dust
  • Empty trash from designated areas across the facility and operate trash and cardboard compactors
  • Maintain lighting by cleaning fixtures regularly, changing bulbs, and washing windows, upper walls, and ceilings
  • Respond quickly to spills and other cleaning needs as they arise throughout the facility
  • Support grounds maintenance including leaf blowing, litter pickup, roof checks, snow and ice removal, painting, and concrete floor repairs
  • Monitor and restock cleaning supplies and place merchandise in the appropriate departments
  • Operate the Interal maintenance system and assist with conducting store inventory
  • Perform internal and external purchases as required and provide courteous service to members, employees, and suppliers

Requirements / Skills

Costco is looking for a candidate who is mechanically inclined, physically capable, and dependable. The ideal person for this role takes their responsibilities seriously and can be trusted to follow established safety and operational procedures without close supervision.

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Valid driver’s licence is required for this position
