About the Role: Buildings & Systems Engineering Specialist
As a Buildings & Systems Engineering Specialist, you’ll be based at 1221 32nd Avenue, Lachine, QC, working Tuesday to Saturday on an overnight shift from 12:00 AM to 8:30 AM. Your primary focus will be supporting the Automated Sortation System through a combination of control room responsibilities, field coordination, and system analysis. You’ll work closely with the Buildings and Systems Engineering Supervisor and Operations Management to minimize equipment downtime and maintain peak system performance.
This position also involves ensuring system safety, participating in compliance activities, and conducting routine technical surveys and audits. You’ll need to bring both a results-driven mindset and a strong sense of urgency — when equipment goes down, the team looks to you. Collaboration with vendors, maintenance mechanics, and field-support specialists is a daily part of the job. Please note that this role operates primarily in French (90%), with English used approximately 10% of the time.

Responsibilities
In this role, your day-to-day work revolves around keeping automated sortation systems operating at their best — from monitoring and troubleshooting to coordinating field teams and managing parts inventory. Each responsibility plays a direct role in minimizing downtime and maintaining a safe, efficient facility.
- Monitor conveyor belt and system defects using the Human Machine Interface (HMI) application
- Investigate root causes for performance issues using system analysis tools
- Dispatch field-support specialists, technicians, and maintenance mechanics to resolve system issues
- Communicate with the Buildings and Systems Engineering Supervisor and Operations Management to reduce defects and equipment downtime
- Review Daily Equipment Condition Reports and coordinate vendors and mechanics to rectify issues
- Manage parts ordering and inventory maintenance
- Troubleshoot, calibrate, analyze, and adjust Automated Sortation Systems to maintain optimal performance
- Respond to calls and breakdowns related to automated system components and expedite their resolution
- Identify equipment proactively causing system defects before they escalate
- Assist in daily maintenance, compliance activities, and routine technical surveys, inspections, and audits
Requirements / Skills
UPS is looking for a technically capable and self-motivated individual who can balance analytical thinking with hands-on problem-solving in a fast-paced warehouse environment. The ideal candidate brings a strong engineering foundation, excellent communication abilities, and a genuine sense of urgency when systems need attention.
- Bilingual proficiency — French (90%) and English (10%) required for day-to-day operations
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Applied Science, or a Technical Diploma in an applicable discipline (or working towards one)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) for reporting and communication
- Physical capability to lift up to 70 lbs unassisted in a warehouse setting
- Results-oriented and detail-focused mindset with excellent communication skills
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and elementary diagrams is a strong asset
- Knowledge of PLCs and electrical controls is an asset
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD is an asset
- Experience with IBM Maximo, Coupa, and Oracle software is an asset
- Experience operating articulating-boom lifts, scissor lifts, and forklifts is an asset
