About the Role: Mechanical Engineer, Motors
As a Mechanical Engineer specializing in motors, you will play a key role in designing and industrializing stators and rotors for Tesla’s powertrains. You’ll work closely with electromagnetic motor design engineers to create bespoke solutions perfectly suited for integration into Tesla’s advanced systems. This position also involves continuous improvement efforts to optimize cost, performance, and reliability of existing designs.
You’ll collaborate with supply chain teams, vendors, and manufacturing engineers to bring your designs to life, ensuring quality and driving process improvements. From prototyping to pilot production assembly, this role offers a unique opportunity to contribute at every stage of the motor development lifecycle.
Responsibilities of a Mechanical Engineer, Motors
- Design and industrialize stators and rotors for Tesla’s powertrains.
- Collaborate with electromagnetic motor design engineers to develop bespoke motor solutions.
- Continuously improve existing designs to reduce cost, enhance performance, and ensure reliability.
- Perform fabrication, machining, wiring, debugging, and parts chasing as needed.
- Work with supply chain, vendors, and manufacturing engineers to support production.
- Provide hands-on support during pilot production assembly, driving process improvements and ensuring quality.
Requirements for the Mechanical Engineer, Motors Role
- Degree in Mechanical/Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 1+ years of experience in mechanical engineering within a product design and manufacturing environment.
- Experience designing and manufacturing motors for actuators used in motion control applications.
- Prototyping experience with stators, rotors, and geared actuators, particularly in R&D environments.
- Familiarity with stator manufacturing methods, assembly, and quality control processes.
- Hands-on experience in a machine shop environment.
- Proficiency in engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerance stacks, and FEA.
- Project management experience leading small teams on high-intensity, fast-paced R&D projects.
- Knowledge of electric motor, electric drive, and motion control technologies.
