Software Development Engineer – Amazon – Toronto, ON (Canada)

The Sponsored Products Bidding team manages the real-time bidding system, adjusting bids dynamically through various machine learning models while maintaining low latency.
This role presents a unique opportunity for a data-focused Software Development Engineer. You’ll be involved in data modeling, data architecture, and optimizing the offline data processing and simulation infrastructure. Additionally, you will help define critical business metrics that shape our long-term product strategy.
About the Role
As a Software Development Engineer, you will elevate our products by working closely with product managers, scientists, and fellow engineers. You’ll take ownership of key products and features, guiding them from design to launch, and ensuring our bidding service upholds the highest standards of operational excellence. This role involves tackling diverse challenges, from experimenting and innovating to building a sustainable business that continues to exceed customer expectations.
We seek someone who is curious, customer-focused, and thrives in a startup-like environment. You’ll be proactive in identifying areas for improvement and adept at managing live site issues efficiently, while maintaining clear communication throughout.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with design and product teams to develop impactful features.
- Contribute to data modeling and data architecture for our bidding platform.
- Optimize offline data processing and simulation infrastructure handling large-scale data.
- Define and monitor business metrics to inform product strategy.
- Maintain operational excellence, identifying and delivering system improvements.
Requirements
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
- 2+ years of experience in design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems.
- Proficiency in programming with at least one software programming language.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
