Amazon is seeking skilled individuals to join their transportation team as Transportation Associates. In this role, you will drive commercial motor vehicles locally and assist with various yard activities such as trailer moves, audits, and coordination with operations.
This position is ideal for candidates passionate about transportation and logistics, and those eager to earn their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) through Amazon’s paid program. Transportation Associates work a 40-hour week with occasional overtime, ensuring you’re home after every shift.
This role is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT), and candidates must be at least 21 years old to comply with interstate commerce regulations. About the Role
As a Transportation Associate, you will be responsible for moving semi-trailers within the yard, ensuring smooth coordination of yard activities, and supporting the operations team to meet trailer delivery schedules. You will operate Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs) on non-public roads and occasionally on public roads, following pre-determined routes and company policies. Your role also includes conducting yard audits, completing vehicle inspections, and adhering to safety protocols.
This is a hands-on position that requires frequent lifting of up to 49 pounds, operating trucks, and working outdoors in various weather conditions. You will play a critical role in maintaining compliance with DOT regulations, Amazon’s safety standards, and traffic laws. Additionally, Transportation Associates may serve as peer trainers to support ongoing training programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive and maneuver CMVs in the yard and on public roads to move trailers to designated locations.
- Ensure yard coordination by checking in trailers, managing traffic flow, and maintaining internal communication with the operations team.
- Adhere to DOT regulations by complying with size, weight, route, and safety policies.
- Conduct vehicle inspections and report any maintenance or safety issues to management.
- Assist with loading/unloading trucks using approved equipment like pallet jacks.
- Work with flexibility to drive up to 75% of the time, including on weekends and holidays, as required to support the business.
Basic Qualifications
Amazon requires the following basic qualifications for the Transportation Associate role:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet DOT requirements.
- 21 years of age or older.
- Ability to work flexible shifts and lift up to 49 pounds during 12-hour shifts.
- Willingness to drive up to 75% of the time and obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Preferred Qualifications
Amazon prefers candidates who also possess the following qualifications:
- Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL).
- Previous experience as an Amazon TOM Associate.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience as a Peer Driver Trainer (PDT) for at least 6 months.
