About the Role: Registered Pharmacy Technician

Responsibilities
The Registered Pharmacy Technician at Costco plays a central role in keeping the pharmacy running smoothly and ensuring every member leaves with the right medication and the right information. From front-counter service to back-end administrative tasks, your contributions directly support both patient safety and operational efficiency.
- Assist patients at the pharmacy counter, receive written prescriptions for the Pharmacist, and retrieve filled prescriptions
- Process transactions including cash, cheque, credit, and debit payments accurately and efficiently
- Maintain patient records by obtaining medical history, updating patient profiles, and entering prescription data into the computerized system in compliance with provincial regulations
- Fill prescriptions by retrieving stock bottles, counting medication, labelling, and pricing under the Pharmacist’s supervision
- Complete packaging verification for prescriptions previously reviewed for therapeutic appropriateness by the Pharmacist
- Alert the Pharmacist to potential drug interactions in prescription and over-the-counter medications
- Verify prescriptions and refills with physicians by phone and take verbal prescriptions to the extent permitted by provincial regulations
- Prepare third-party insurance claims, process invoices, and make accounting entries using the pharmacy’s computerized system
- Order, receive, tag, and stock prescription drugs, supplies, and OTC products while following storage procedures and merchandising standards
- Support general warehouse operations as needed, including OTC roaming and department stocking duties
Requirements / Skills
Costco is looking for a licensed and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician who is comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative pharmacy team. The ideal candidate brings strong organizational skills, a genuine commitment to patient confidentiality, and a solid foundation in pharmacy practice.
- Provincial Pharmacy Technician certification — completed through a recognized Community College program or equivalent
- Pharmacy Examination Board of Canada (PEBC) Qualifying Exam completion is required
- Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician in good standing in the Province of Ontario
- Computer proficiency with pharmacy management systems and basic math skills for accurate dispensing and billing
- Strong member service skills — ability to communicate clearly, handle inquiries professionally, and maintain patient confidentiality
- Previous Costco Pharmacy experience is considered an asset and will be given preference in the selection process
