Responsibilities
As a Pharmacy Student at Costco Ottawa, your responsibilities span both clinical support and front-line patient service. Every task you take on directly supports the pharmacy team’s ability to deliver accurate, timely, and safe care to members.
- Answer and triage member phone calls and direct members to the appropriate product or service
- Collect patient information and input prescriptions accurately into the pharmacy software system under pharmacist supervision
- Fill prescriptions by retrieving stock, counting medications, and labelling — following all safety and security procedures
- Alert the pharmacist when necessary, such as in cases of drug interactions or patient concerns
- Assist patients at the counter, retrieve prescriptions, and process register transactions in accordance with established procedures
- Communicate with patients about OTC products under the pharmacist’s supervision, and refer to the pharmacist when appropriate
- Identify and recruit patients eligible for the Medication Review Program and assist the pharmacist in delivering these services
- Support Health Promotion Clinics by assisting with recruitment and implementation planning alongside the pharmacist
- Stock drugs, supplies, and OTC merchandise and help keep the pharmacy clean and well organized
- Comply with provincial regulations regarding the pharmacy student role and maintain patient confidentiality at all times
