Responsibilities
The Member Service Assistant role at Costco covers a wide range of duties that keep the warehouse safe, welcoming, and running smoothly. You’ll interact with members throughout their visit while also performing important security and safety functions that protect both staff and shoppers.
- Greet and verify members at the warehouse entrance, checking membership cards and offering carts as needed
- Conduct hourly safety and security inspections throughout the warehouse and the surrounding perimeter, correcting hazards such as spills, trip hazards, and blocked exits
- Track member counts using a handheld counter, reporting half-hourly figures to the Front End and recording them on weekly reports
- Complete inspection forms and present results to the duty manager; attend scheduled warehouse safety meetings
- Monitor warehouse access, discretely observe sensitive transactions (e.g., armored vehicle pick-ups, register set-up), and operate a panic button when required
- Check backpacks, lunch pails, strollers, and other bags at the exit as part of loss prevention procedures
- Verify member receipts at the exit, comparing items to purchases, marking receipts, and thanking members as they leave
- Perform after-hours perimeter security checks using your personal vehicle and communicate by 2-way radio with the duty manager
- Assist in other areas of the warehouse as required by management
