Maintenance Assistant – Costco Wholesale – Winnipeg, MB

Costco Wholesale Canada is looking for a responsible and detail-oriented Maintenance Assistant to join the team at its Winnipeg Optical Lab, located at 4077 Portage Avenue. In this role, you’ll help maintain a clean, safe, and efficient environment for employees and customers while supporting the upkeep of facilities and equipment according to company standards.

About the role: Maintenance Assistant

As a Maintenance Assistant, you’ll perform general cleaning and upkeep duties throughout the Optical Lab, including floors, offices, restrooms, and production areas. You’ll also operate cardboard and trash compactors, clean light fixtures and windows, and assist in maintaining exterior areas such as parking lots and roofs.

Your role will also involve snow and ice removal during winter, minor repair tasks like painting or concrete patching, and ensuring cleaning supplies are well-stocked. Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity are key, as you’ll handle a variety of maintenance tools and systems.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain floors, restrooms, offices, and production areas
• Operate cardboard and trash compactors safely and efficiently
• Perform light maintenance such as changing bulbs, painting, and repairing concrete floors
• Assist with groundskeeping duties including litter collection, snow removal, and roof checks
• Monitor and restock cleaning supplies and inventory
• Follow all safety and security procedures within the Optical Lab
• Provide prompt and courteous service to members, employees, and suppliers
• Assist in internal and external purchases and help manage inventory records

Requirements / Skills

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Valid driver’s license required
• Janitorial or facility maintenance experience preferred
• Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity
• Ability to lift, move, and operate maintenance equipment safely
• Strong sense of responsibility and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and follow maintenance schedules
• For Quebec postings: proficiency in French (oral and written)
