Cake Decorator – Costco – Richmond, BC

Costco’s bakery department at the Richmond, BC location on Bridgeport Road is looking for a skilled Cake Decorator to join their team. Day to day, you’ll be working with pastry bags, spatulas, and cake decorating tools to frost, fill, garnish, and personalize cakes for both general sales stock and member special orders. The work is creative and detail-oriented, following Costco’s established formulas and presentation standards.

As a Cake Decorator at Costco Richmond, you’ll be responsible for every step of the cake finishing process — from slicing and layering to applying decorative borders, writing personalized messages, and boxing finished products. You’ll work with a variety of tools including whipping cream machines and cake slicing equipment, and handle fresh fruit preparation for toppings.

Maintaining a clean and organized decorating area is a key part of the job, as are food safety practices and following Costco’s department production procedures. You’ll also interact directly with members when special orders require clarification, so courteous member service is part of the daily routine.

Responsibilities

The Cake Decorator role at Costco involves a full range of bakery finishing tasks. From preparing cakes by hand to executing precise decorative details and fulfilling personalized member orders, each responsibility contributes to maintaining Costco’s high product quality and consistency standards.

• Frost and fill cakes using a spatula, applying layers of mixed frostings from bowls or buckets
• Decorate cakes by hand using pastry bags and various tips to create borders, figures, and personalized writing per Costco formulas
• Interpret member special orders to determine appropriate flavours, colours, and decorative patterns; follow up by phone if instructions are unclear
• Prepare cheesecakes by removing from baking pans, placing on cake pads, and applying toppings and garnishes per Costco standards
• Slice cakes by hand with a 16″ knife or slicing machine and place on pre-cut cardboard cake pads
• Operate whipping cream machines and prepare fresh fruit for baked product applications
• Assemble cardboard cake boxes, box finished cakes, and transfer to cooler, freezer, or wrapping areas on wheeled racks
• Maintain cleanliness of the decorating area and adhere to all safety and security procedures
• Assist with other bakery and warehouse duties as needed

Requirements / Skills

Costco is looking for candidates who bring both attention to detail and a genuine enthusiasm for quality craftsmanship to the bakery. Candidates with prior cake decorating experience will be given preference, and a commitment to food safety is mandatory from day one.

• Cake decorating experience is preferred and will be prioritized in the selection process
• Food Safety Certification – Level 1 is required on the first day in the position
• High School Diploma or GED is preferred
• Ability to follow detailed production procedures and maintain consistency in finished products
• Member service skills including the ability to communicate clearly and courteously with customers
• Candidates applying at Quebec locations must be able to communicate in French, both orally and in writing
