Software Developer III, Mobile (Android) – Google – Waterloo, ON

Google is seeking a talented Software Developer III specialized in Android and C++ development to join the Google Home Platform team in Waterloo, Ontario. In this role, you’ll contribute to cutting-edge mobile technologies that power the Google Home ecosystem and integrate with Google’s broader suite of health, wellness, and connected device platforms.

As part of the Health Platforms and Devices team, you’ll leverage your expertise in Android SDK, large-scale systems, and platform optimization to design, develop, and maintain applications that directly impact billions of users worldwide. This position requires a strong foundation in software design, debugging, and large-scale PaaS solutions, along with a passion for building intuitive and impactful consumer experiences.

About the Role

In this position, you’ll work on high-impact mobile projects that drive the evolution of Google’s home and health platforms. You’ll design scalable software solutions, write and review code, and contribute to documentation and educational materials that improve the developer and user experience. This role also involves diagnosing and resolving product issues, ensuring system reliability, and collaborating across multiple Google teams to push innovation forward.

Your contributions will extend beyond product development — you’ll participate in design reviews, system optimization, and data-driven analysis to refine both user-facing applications and backend infrastructure. Requirements / Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• 2+ years of experience with Android SDK and application development
• 2+ years of C++ development experience
• Experience with PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service) development or optimization

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science or a related field
• 2+ years of experience in performance analysis, data visualization, or debugging
• Strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms
• Hands-on experience with Android application development in diverse environments
• Background in software testing, system health, and code optimization
• Experience in non-Android mobile platforms and accessible technologies
