Canada Post is looking for a Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier (On-call Relief) to join their team in Chatham, Ontario. About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief

Day to day, you’ll be sorting, collecting, and delivering mail items safely and on time while navigating local roads in all kinds of weather. You’ll get to know your routes intimately — from the roads and intersections to customer addresses and delivery receptacles — and take real ownership over your territory.

As the face of Canada Post on your route, you’ll wear your identification proudly and process a range of CPC products and services, including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail handling, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB). Physical readiness matters too — you’ll be lifting and carrying items up to 50 lbs (22.7 kg) regularly.

Responsibilities

Working as a Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier means your responsibilities go beyond simply dropping off envelopes. You’ll be the reliable link between Canada Post and the people of Chatham, managing your route with care, efficiency, and professionalism every shift you’re called in.

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items safely and in a timely manner across your assigned rural and suburban route
• Acquire and maintain in-depth knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles
• Secure all mail in your possession at all times to prevent loss or damage
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear Canada Post identification visibly at all times while delivering and collecting mail
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs (22.7 kg)
• Operate a motor vehicle safely in all weather and traffic conditions

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, and comfortable working independently on the road. Canada Post values candidates who take safety seriously, know their community, and can adapt to changing conditions — from weather to workload.

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or Class G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a current driver’s abstract dated within the last 30 days will be required
• Access to a qualifying vehicle with a minimum cargo capacity of 50 cu ft (1,415 litres), automatic transmission, power windows, metal roof-top, accessory power outlet, and a fifth door/hatchback (preferred)
• Automobile liability insurance for use of your personal vehicle, with notification to your insurance provider of its use during employment
• Experience making deliveries and operating a vehicle in varied weather and traffic conditions
• Residency within 75 km of the Chatham Post Office is preferred
