About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier

As an on-call relief carrier, your day centres around efficiently sorting, collecting, and delivering mail items in a safe and timely manner. You’ll build familiarity with local roads, customer locations, and delivery receptacles, all while representing Canada Post professionally. The role also involves processing various Canada Post products and services, including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail reports, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB).

You’ll be required to wear your Canada Post identification visibly at all times during delivery, handle parcels weighing up to 50 lb (22.7 kg), and use your own personal vehicle that meets the corporation’s mandatory vehicle standards. This position is bilingual imperative (–BB), meaning both English and French language skills are required.

• Sort and deliver mail items safely and efficiently across assigned rural and suburban routes
• Collect mail from customers and ensure all items are securely in your possession throughout the route
• Maintain knowledge of local roads, customer addresses, and delivery receptacle locations
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear Canada Post identification visibly at all times during delivery and collection activities
• Lift and carry parcels weighing up to 50 lb / 22.7 kg as required
• Operate a personal vehicle safely in all weather and traffic conditions, meeting Canada Post’s mandatory vehicle requirements

Requirements / Skills

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence (Class 5 or G) is mandatory
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a current driver’s abstract dated within the last 30 days will be required upon selection
• Personal vehicle meeting cargo requirements — minimum 50 cu ft (1,415 litres) cargo capacity, automatic transmission, power windows, metal roof-top, accessory power outlet, and a window sill height between 38″ and 45″ from the ground
• Automobile liability insurance for your vehicle’s use during employment, with notification to your insurer
• Bilingual (English and French) communication skills at the –BB level
• Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in various weather and traffic conditions is an asset
• Residency within 75 km of the Contrecoeur Post Office is preferred
