About the Role: Pharmacy Student
Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, the Pharmacy Student at Costco assists with all aspects of drug distribution and patient care. From filling prescriptions and managing patient inquiries to supporting expanded scope services like medication review programs and health promotion initiatives, your contributions will be meaningful from day one. You’ll also assist patients at the counter, answer questions about OTC products, and provide prescription counselling in accordance with your competency level and provincial regulations.
Maintaining patient confidentiality, following all safety and security procedures, and adhering to Costco Pharmacy’s policies are central to this role. You’ll be part of a pharmacy team that values accuracy, professionalism, and outstanding member service — and you’ll be expected to know when to escalate concerns to the supervising pharmacist.

Responsibilities
The Pharmacy Student role at Costco Richmond covers a broad range of clinical and operational duties carried out under the constant supervision of a pharmacist. These responsibilities are designed to develop your professional competencies while ensuring the highest standard of care for Costco members.
- Answer and triage member phone calls and direct members to appropriate product locations
- Collect patient information and accurately input prescriptions into the pharmacy software system
- Fill prescriptions by retrieving stock bottles, counting medications, and labelling under pharmacist supervision, following all safety and security procedures
- Alert the pharmacist in situations involving drug interactions or patient concerns
- Assist patients at the counter, retrieve prescriptions, and process register transactions with prompt and courteous service
- Communicate with patients regarding OTC products and refer to the pharmacist when appropriate
- Provide prescription counselling in accordance with competency level and provincial regulations, under pharmacist direction
- Identify and recruit patients eligible for the medication review program and assist in delivering those services
- Support Health Promotion Clinics by assisting with recruitment and implementation planning alongside the pharmacist
- Stock drugs, supplies, and OTC merchandise and help maintain a clean, organized pharmacy
- Comply with provincial regulations regarding pharmacy student responsibilities and maintain patient confidentiality at all times
