About the Role: Pharmacy Assistant

Responsibilities

Working under the pharmacist’s guidance, the Pharmacy Assistant handles a wide range of technical and administrative tasks that keep the dispensary operating efficiently. These responsibilities require attention to detail, knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a regulated environment.

  • Receive prescriptions from patients in accordance with provincial legal and regulatory requirements, assessing each for completeness including patient info, allergies, third-party details, and prescriber information
  • Perform computer functions as directed by the pharmacist, including data entry, patient profile updates, refill processing, price checks, and report generation
  • Fill prescriptions under pharmacist supervision, selecting and counting/measuring appropriate products, performing the 7-point accuracy program, labelling, and organizing for pharmacist review
  • Maintain inventory control by monitoring stock levels, checking for expired medications monthly, writing up returns, ordering drugs and supplies, and using the preferred wholesaler where applicable
  • Keep the dispensary clean and organized, maintaining a safe work environment and ensuring packaging and dispensing equipment is properly cleaned and maintained
  • Handle clerical duties including filing prescriptions, invoices, reports, correspondence, and completing administrative support functions such as accounts receivable and journals
  • Support OTC operations including stocking, ordering, and cashier duties as directed by the OTC Manager or pharmacist
