About the Role: Pharmacist

This position goes well beyond counting pills. You’ll be responsible for the complete clinical and operational side of pharmacy care, checking prescriptions for therapeutic appropriateness, resolving drug therapy problems, and leading health and wellness clinics. You’ll also act as Pharmacist-In-Charge when the pharmacy manager is away, overseeing the dispensary and supervising pharmacy interns and students.

Patient safety is at the heart of this role. Responsibilities

As a Pharmacist at Costco Saskatoon, your work spans clinical care, patient education, and dispensary management. These responsibilities reflect the full scope of what a modern community pharmacist does — and Saskatchewan regulations allow you to put all of your skills to work.

  • Dispense prescription medications accurately and apply appropriate auxiliary labels
  • Review prescriptions and OTC medications for therapeutic appropriateness, including drug interactions, allergies, contraindications, dosing, and dosage form
  • Verify prescriptions and refills with physicians by phone and accept verbal prescriptions as needed; select therapeutic substitutions where appropriate
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to identify and resolve drug therapy problems
  • Educate patients on proper medication use and answer questions about over-the-counter products while preserving patient confidentiality
  • Conduct full medication reviews, best possible medication histories, and medication reconciliation; participate in medication therapy management and patient follow-up
  • Administer medications by injection and perform specific acts under prescriber delegation or collaboration, to the extent permitted by provincial regulations
  • Recruit and run health and wellness clinics, documenting interventions where permitted
  • Order and communicate laboratory tests to the extent permitted by provincial regulations
  • Supervise pharmacy interns and students, and act as Pharmacist-In-Charge in the pharmacy manager’s absence
  • Maintain professional competence through continuing education and keep all certifications current

Requirements / Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) required
