About the Role: Pharmacist

As a Costco Pharmacist, your day revolves around delivering safe, effective, and compassionate pharmaceutical care. You’ll be responsible for dispensing prescription medications, verifying therapeutic appropriateness, educating patients on proper usage, and maintaining strict patient confidentiality. You’ll work closely with Registered Technicians, pharmacy interns, and other healthcare professionals to keep the dispensary running smoothly. In the absence of the pharmacy manager, you’ll step into the Pharmacist-In-Charge role, ensuring all operations and standards are upheld. Responsibilities

The Pharmacist role at Costco encompasses a broad range of clinical, patient care, and operational duties. From the dispensary counter to health and wellness clinics, you’ll be an essential healthcare resource for Costco members and their families.

  • Dispense prescription medications and apply appropriate auxiliary labels with precision
  • Review prescriptions and OTC medications for therapeutic appropriateness, including drug interactions, allergies, contraindications, dosing, and frequency
  • Verify prescriptions and refills with physicians by phone, take verbal prescriptions, and select therapeutic substitutions when appropriate
  • Educate patients on proper medication usage and answer questions about over-the-counter products while preserving patient confidentiality
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to identify and resolve drug therapy problems
  • Conduct full medication reviews, including best possible medication histories, medication reconciliation, and patient follow-up as permitted by provincial regulations
  • Administer medications by injection and adapt, extend, or modify prescriptions as permitted under Ontario regulations
  • Recruit patients for and run health and wellness clinics, documenting interventions as required
  • Act as Pharmacist-In-Charge when the pharmacy manager is absent, supervising interns and students
  • Participate in a culture of patient safety by reducing and eliminating prescription incidents and properly managing those that occur
  • Maintain professional competence through continuing education and keep all required certifications current

Requirements / Skills
