Responsibilities
Working as a Package Handler at FedEx Sudbury means you’ll be on the move throughout your shift, contributing directly to the accuracy and efficiency of the sort operation. Each task you perform — from scanning to loading — plays a key role in making sure packages reach their destinations on time.
- Load and unload packages onto and from delivery vehicles, trailers, pallets, and conveyor systems using proper hand-to-surface methods
- Lift, carry, push, and pull packages continuously throughout a 3–5 hour shift, handling items ranging from 5 to 50 pounds
- Scan and sort packages by reading labels, verifying numbers, and memorizing routing information to direct items to the correct conveyor
- Perform quality assurance and facing duties as assigned by management
- Train new Package Handlers (if assigned as PH Trainer) on loading, unloading, palletizing, and safe handling techniques
- Inspect packages in the airlift consolidation area (if assigned as PH – Air) for hazardous materials or ORM-D designations before air loading
- Reinforce dock safety standards among team members and update supervisors on operational conditions throughout the sort
