Responsibilities
As a Licensed Optician and Contact Lens Practitioner at Costco Richmond, your day-to-day will be dynamic and clinically engaging. You’ll be the go-to expert for members navigating their eyewear options — from the initial consultation right through to dispensing — all while upholding the high standards Costco is known for in member service and optical care.
- Assist members in selecting appropriate eyeglass frames, lenses, sunglasses, and contact lens options based on their prescription needs
- Measure pupillary distance accurately using a pupilometer or ruler and determine correct multifocal and bifocal heights
- Conduct slit lamp examinations to assess general ocular health and assist in the fitting of contact lenses
- Process member orders using the computer system and place special orders with outside vendors as required
- Handle payment transactions accurately including cash, cheque, credit, and debit charges in accordance with proper procedures
- Inspect completed eyeglasses and contact lenses against prescriptions prior to dispensing, and fit/adjust frames using appropriate tools
- Maintain contact lens trial inventory and stock optical merchandise and supplies to departmental standards
- Oversee apprentices and students as required to support their certification qualification
- Maintain provincial licensing requirements to ensure membership in good standing with the provincial order
- Uphold cleanliness and safety standards within the optical department at all times
