About the Role: Optical Student

Responsibilities

The Optical Student role at Costco covers a broad mix of member service, optical fitting, and retail operations. Every shift contributes to delivering a smooth, professional experience for members from frame selection through to final fitting.

  • Assist members in selecting eyeglass frames and lens options, providing prompt and courteous service throughout
  • Process transactions accurately, including cash, cheque, credit, and debit payments following proper cash handling procedures
  • Fit and adjust eyeglasses using a frame warmer and manual bending techniques, under the supervision of a licensed Optician as permitted by provincial law
  • Order equipment, merchandise, and supplies by entering data into the computer system
  • Stock merchandise and supplies, following department standards for production, record keeping, merchandising, and product storage
  • Clean and maintain the department through spraying, wiping, mopping, emptying trash, and operating the trash compactor and cardboard bailer
  • Follow safety and security procedures at all times throughout daily tasks
  • Assist in other areas of the warehouse as required

Requirements / Skills

Costco is looking for a candidate who holds the appropriate provincial optical licensing and is registered with the applicable college. The ideal person is service-oriented, reliable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced retail warehouse environment.

  • Current Provincial licence required along with registration in the applicable optical college
  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred for this position
  • No prior work experience is required — this is a student-level role designed for those building their optical career
  • Ability to communicate in French (oral and written) is required for candidates applying to Quebec locations
