Responsibilities

The Meat Assistant role at Costco Burnaby covers a range of practical, hands-on tasks within the meat department. Each responsibility contributes to keeping the department running smoothly, safely, and up to Costco’s quality standards.

  • Inspect and reassemble equipment sanitized the previous night, then rework and rotate product in the display case
  • Operate the automatic wrapping machine by placing individual styro-packaged meat packages from large wheeled racks into the machine
  • Set and apply labels using the labeller, adjusting for product type and price before applying labels to each item
  • Stock display cases by loading wrapped and labelled meat onto large trays and placing product through sliding windows or by moving racks to the floor
  • Operate the meat grinder, dumping meat into the machine and checking the fat content of each batch for quality and consistency
  • Clean and sanitize the work area throughout the day in compliance with health code and sanitation standards, including maintaining proper temperatures
  • Perform routine maintenance on machinery, equipment, and implements used in the department
  • Provide prompt and courteous service to Costco members and assist in other areas of the warehouse when needed

Requirements / Skills

Costco is looking for a reliable and detail-oriented candidate who can maintain high standards of food safety, product quality, and member service. Candidates with a background in meat wrapping or food processing will be given preference during the selection process.

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Food Safety Certification – Level 1 is required by the first day in the position
  • Meat wrapping experience is preferred and will be prioritized over other candidates
