About the Role: Letter Carrier – Delivery Agent and Postal Clerk

This position covers two distinct functions depending on the assignment. As a Delivery Agent (Letter Carrier), you’ll be the face of Canada Post in the community — sorting mail at the depot, loading a Canada Post postal vehicle, and spending the bulk of your day delivering mail and packages by foot or by vehicle along your route. At the end of the day, you’ll return to the depot to unload incoming items for the next round of deliveries.

As a Postal Clerk, you’ll be based inside a sorting facility, handling mail across a variety of shifts including evenings, nights, and weekends. The work involves operating material handling equipment, sorting and scanning mail, sequencing and batching items, and completing required documentation. Both roles demand physical stamina, reliability, and the ability to work in a fast-paced operational environment.

Responsibilities

In this dual-function role, your day-to-day duties will vary depending on whether you’re assigned as a Delivery Agent or a Postal Clerk. Both streams are essential to keeping Canada’s mail and parcel network running smoothly, and both require attention to detail, physical effort, and a dependable work ethic.

  • Sort and prepare the day’s mail and parcel deliveries at the depot before heading out on route
  • Load and operate a Canada Post postal vehicle safely and responsibly
  • Deliver mail and packages by foot or vehicle to customers and businesses along your assigned route
  • Unload incoming mail and packages at the depot at the end of each shift for subsequent delivery
  • Sort, scan, and sequence mail items inside a sorting facility as a Postal Clerk
  • Operate material handling equipment and process parcel transfers and dispatching
  • Receive and accept mail items and complete required reports and documentation
  • Work flexible shifts including evenings, nights, and weekends as required

Requirements / Skills

Canada Post is looking for candidates who are physically capable, dependable, and ready to represent the organization in the community or on the floor of a sorting facility. The right person for this role is comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and is available on an on-call basis. Prior experience in delivery, driving, or a production environment is a definite asset.

  • Valid Class 5 or Class G driver’s licence with a clean driving record for at least 3 years (driver’s abstract required)
  • Physical ability to lift mail items up to 22.7 kg (50 lb) and carry items up to 15.9 kg (35 lb) regularly throughout the day
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions
  • Availability for on-call work, including possible evenings and weekends
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English and/or French (French is essential for this location)
  • Customer service experience or prior delivery/driving experience is an asset
  • Production environment experience is considered an additional asset
