Freight Handler – FedEx – Mississauga, ON

FedEx Freight Canada is hiring a Part-Time Freight Handler in Mississauga, ON. In this role, you will be responsible for transporting freight across the dock area to and from trailers, ensuring the safe handling of shipments, and maintaining accurate freight records.

About the Role

As a Freight Handler, you will play a key part in ensuring freight is handled safely, efficiently, and according to FedEx standards. You will operate equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks, verify shipment documentation, and follow all safety regulations, including Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) and WHMIS requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Transport freight across dock area to and from trailers using forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
• Verify shipment documentation and ensure freight matches descriptions (type, weight, hazardous materials).
• Secure freight using straps, boards, and other resources to ensure safe transport.
• Recoup or repair damaged freight when required.
• Follow safety procedures including WHMIS and TDG regulations.
• Assist customers with freight and documentation when needed.
• Maintain cleanliness of the facility, trailers, and dock area.
• Assist with mentoring new hires as required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in freight handling, warehousing, or forklift operation preferred.
• Must be able to obtain a forklift certificate during probationary period.
• Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry heavy freight (up to 100 lbs).
• Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Basic math and computer skills.
• Good verbal, written, and reading communication skills.
• Bilingual (English/French) preferred; required for Quebec roles.
