About the Role: Food Service Assistant – Food Court

As a Food Service Assistant, you’ll be preparing and selling food and beverages to Costco members throughout your shift. Daily tasks include preparing pizzas — rolling, shaping, adding toppings, and baking — as well as slicing and placing items in warmers, steaming hot dogs and buns, and operating deep fryers. You’ll also handle cash transactions, ring up sales, make change, and take pizza orders at the counter and by phone.

Keeping the food court running smoothly also means maintaining cleanliness and food safety standards. You’ll clean and sanitize machines, work surfaces, floors, pans, and utensils, bus and wipe down tables, sweep and mop floors, empty trash, and operate the compactor. Compliance with health codes — including proper sanitation, temperature control, product rotation, and expiry date monitoring — is a core part of the job.

Responsibilities

The Food Service Assistant role at Costco’s food court covers a broad range of duties — from food preparation and customer service to sanitation and supply management. Every task contributes to delivering a consistent, quality experience for Costco members visiting the food court.

• Prepare hot food items including rolling, shaping, topping, and baking pizzas; slice and place in warmers
• Operate kitchen equipment such as deep fryers, steamers, and dispensing machines for frozen yogurt, lattes, and smoothies
• Process cash transactions accurately — ring up sales, collect payment, and make change following department cash handling procedures
• Take and assemble orders from members at the counter and over the phone, presenting orders correctly
• Maintain the self-serve area including the pop station, condiment table, and eating area
• Clean and sanitize all machines, work surfaces, floors, pans, utensils, and counters regularly
• Pull and stock ingredients and supplies from the warehouse, staging items in the preparation area and refilling dispensing machines
• Follow health codes including sanitation standards, temperature guidelines, product rotation, and expiry date compliance
• Assist in other warehouse areas as needed

Requirements / Skills

• High School Diploma or GED — preferred but not mandatory
• Food Safety Certification – Level 1 — required by your first day on the job

• Physical readiness — the role involves standing for extended periods, lifting supplies, and working in hot kitchen conditions
• Attention to food safety and hygiene standards — following proper sanitation, temperature, and rotation protocols is essential
