About the Role: Data Center Technician

As a Data Center Technician at AWS, you’ll play a direct role in maintaining the availability and reliability of AWS infrastructure. Responsibilities span from break-fix of servers and network devices to participating in power and cooling events within the data centre. You’ll also be expected to produce documentation and contribute to innovative solutions as issues arise on the floor.

This role requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a 24/7 operational environment. You’ll coordinate with various internal data centre teams and interact with third-party vendors and contractors. Participation in an on-call rotation and the ability to provide after-hours support are part of the position. Responsibilities

Working in a fast-paced, 24/7 data centre environment, this role involves a wide range of technical duties that keep AWS infrastructure running without interruption. From hands-on hardware repair to coordinating with vendors, the work is varied and demands both technical precision and strong communication skills.

  • Provide onsite coverage as part of a team through scheduled shifts and/or weekly on-call rotation
  • Respond to high-severity events within defined service level agreements (SLAs)
  • Participate in data centre power and cooling events to maintain infrastructure stability
  • Perform break-fix on servers and network devices to minimize downtime
  • Troubleshoot network connections and diagnose hardware issues efficiently
  • Coordinate and build relationships with various internal data centre teams
  • Interact with third-party vendors and contractors on the data centre floor
  • Install equipment, produce documentation, and contribute innovative solutions to problems
  • Regularly lift and move up to 40 lbs, with participation in group lifts for heavier loads
  • Support team development by contributing to the growth of fellow team members

Requirements / Skills

AWS is looking for a technically capable and bilingual candidate who thrives in a dynamic, hands-on environment. Given the global and cross-provincial nature of operations, fluency in both French and English is a firm requirement for this role.   • 1+ year of computer hardware experience, including troubleshooting and physical repair
  • 1+ year of network and operating system support experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bilingualism in French and English — required due to interaction with global Amazon entities and Canadian stakeholders
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian Personnel Security Clearance, including 5 years of continuous Canadian residency
  • Ability to work in a 24/7 environment, including on-call rotation and after-hours support
  • Data centre environment experience (rack building, cable management, hot/cold aisle containment) — considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Linux, network design, data storage devices, or scripting languages — considered an asset
