About the Role: Data Center Technician
As a Data Center Technician at AWS, your primary focus is on the availability and reliability of data center systems. You’ll be diagnosing and repairing computer hardware and network equipment, installing servers, managing cables, and responding to high-severity incidents within defined service level agreements. The role also involves producing documentation and contributing innovative ideas to improve processes within the data center environment.
This position calls for someone who can work both independently and collaboratively. You’ll interact with colleagues across multiple data center teams, liaise with external vendors and contractors, and contribute to the professional development of your fellow technicians. On-call participation may be required, along with some travel. Physical requirements include regularly lifting up to 40 pounds, working in elevated locations, and operating effectively in a 24/7 shift environment. Responsibilities
Working at the core of AWS’s physical infrastructure, the Data Center Technician role involves a wide range of technical and operational duties. Every shift contributes directly to the reliability of cloud services used by millions of customers globally, making precision and responsiveness critical skills on the job.
- Provide onsite coverage as part of a shift-based team and participate in weekly on-call rotations
- Respond to high-severity events within defined service level agreements (SLAs)
- Participate in data center power and cooling events, ensuring systems remain stable and operational
- Perform break-fix repairs on servers and network devices to minimize downtime
- Troubleshoot network connections and diagnose hardware-related issues efficiently
- Coordinate with internal data center teams and build strong cross-functional relationships
- Interact with third-party vendors and contractors during installations and maintenance activities
- Identify process improvements and contribute ideas to enhance systems and workflows
- Support the development of fellow team members through knowledge sharing and hands-on collaboration
Requirements / Skills

- 1+ year of computer hardware experience, including troubleshooting and physical repair
- 1+ year of network and operating system support experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Bilingualism in French and English is required due to interactions with global Amazon teams and stakeholders across Canada
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian Personnel Security Clearance, including five years of continuous Canadian residency
- Physical capability to regularly lift up to 40 pounds and work in elevated locations
- Data center environment experience (rack building, cable management, hot/cold aisle containment) is an asset
- Knowledge of Linux or similar operating systems is a strong asset
- Understanding of network design, protocols, and troubleshooting is considered an advantage
