About the Role: Data Center Operations Technician

As a Data Center Operations Technician, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and reliability of all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data centre. The systems you’ll manage include standby diesel generators, fuel systems, switchboards, UPS and PDU systems, AHU/CRAH/CRAC cooling units, pumps, motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and building automation systems. These assets support mission-critical servers that power some of the world’s most important businesses.

You’ll also serve as a key technical resource across the site, coordinating with on-site vendors, supporting planned maintenance events, and sharing your expertise with newer team members. The role involves participating in incident response drills and contributing to innovative solutions that reduce operational costs across the facility. Please note: this position requires the successful candidate to obtain and maintain an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada.

Responsibilities

Day-to-day work as a Data Center Operations Technician at AWS is fast-paced and operationally critical. You’ll monitor complex infrastructure systems, respond to issues in real time, and play an active role in keeping Amazon’s cloud infrastructure online. Here’s what a typical day looks like on the ground:

  • Monitor alarms and systems managing power, cooling, and fire suppression within the data centre environment
  • Coordinate on-site vendor work to ensure equipment maintenance is completed safely and system uptime is preserved
  • Support other internal teams and sites during planned maintenance events and operational incidents
  • Perform rack installations and power up equipment in line with Amazon’s operational standards
  • Facilitate the commissioning and handover of new equipment into live production environments
