About the Role: Data Center Manager
As Data Center Manager, you’ll carry operational responsibility for a data centre and the people who run it. Your days will involve reviewing overnight alerts, setting team priorities, conducting one-on-ones, and leading cross-functional calls with engineering, capacity planning, and facilities teams. You’ll be the primary call leader when large-scale events hit — bringing fast decisions and structured responses to high-pressure situations.
Beyond day-to-day operations, this role demands a strong commitment to people development, process improvement, and strategic thinking. You’ll be recruiting, training, and growing a diverse team of data centre professionals across multiple locations. Note that this position requires obtaining and maintaining an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada, and bilingualism in French and English is required due to cross-provincial and global interactions.
Benefits and Salary
The base salary for this Data Center Manager role ranges from $83,800 to $108,200 CAD annually, depending on experience, qualifications, and location. As part of Amazon’s total compensation approach, the package may also include sign-on payments and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). Benefits include health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, basic life and AD&D), a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), paid time off, and additional resources to support health and well-being.

Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll be accountable for the full operational health of a data centre and the team that keeps it running. From shift scheduling and ticket management to outage leadership and process innovation, your work directly impacts AWS infrastructure reliability. Here’s a closer look at what the day-to-day involves:
- Prioritize and assign trouble tickets to data centre technicians and operators to maintain efficient queue management
- Lead and manage a diverse team of data centre operations professionals with varying skill sets across multiple locations
- Develop and maintain career paths for employees and keep records updated in internal tools
- Recruit and train data centre technicians to ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained at all times
- Oversee 24/7 shift scheduling, hardware logistics, and day-to-day operational queue management
- Measure and track all operational KPIs and metrics to ensure they are consistently met
- Lead large-scale incident response, serving as primary call leader during escalations and outages
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, capacity planning, and facilities teams to support operational goals
- Recommend and document policies and procedures aligned with industry best practices and required SLAs
- Drive continuous improvement in team processes, technology innovation, and automation
Requirements / Skills
AWS is looking for a technically grounded people leader who can operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. The ideal candidate brings both hands-on data centre expertise and proven management experience, along with the bilingual communication skills needed to work across Canada and globally.
- 2+ years of IT operations management experience within technologist teams
- In-depth Linux systems administration knowledge and hands-on experience
- Networking experience and knowledge of best practices in cabling
- Strong understanding of IT architectures and expertise in troubleshooting complex technical issues
- In-depth knowledge of data centre infrastructure including hardware and network environments
- Bilingual proficiency in French and English — both written and spoken — required for this position
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada
- Willingness and ability to work in a 24/7 environment, including on-call rotations and support outside regular business hours
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and education is considered an asset
