About the Role: Courier Team Lead

In this position, you’ll work directly alongside management to oversee daily courier operations, ensuring your team stays on track with delivery and pickup targets. You’ll lead your assigned sector using Best Practices (BP) methods, acting as a mentor and role model for hourly employees. This includes coaching staff on the job, addressing issues as they arise, and keeping everyone aligned with FedEx standards.

Strong communication and conflict resolution skills are central to this role. You’ll need to delegate tasks in a time-sensitive environment, maintain your own DG specialist certification and other required training accreditations, and operate within the framework of Canadian Customs regulations and FedEx service guidelines. A valid driver’s licence with a clean record is mandatory.

Responsibilities

The Courier Team Lead plays a pivotal role in keeping daily operations on track. From supervising your sector to ensuring every team member follows FedEx Best Practices, your work directly impacts the reliability and quality of service that customers count on every day.

  • Assist management in overseeing daily sort, delivery, and pickup activities at the Richmond facility
  • Lead your assigned sector by modelling best practices and effective operational standards
  • Mentor and coach hourly employees on the job, demonstrating strong leadership behaviour
  • Resolve conflicts using established communication and conflict resolution methods
  • Prioritize and delegate tasks efficiently in a time-sensitive operational environment
  • Maintain all required training accreditations, including DG specialist certification and annual recurrency training
  • Stay current with BP updates, defensive driving training, and FedEx product knowledge
  • Handle packages weighing up to 70 lbs, and manoeuvre shipments up to 150 lbs with proper equipment

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate for this role brings at least one year of current courier experience and the leadership instincts to guide a team under pressure. FedEx values individuals who are organized, safety-conscious, and genuinely committed to helping their colleagues succeed.

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required as a minimum educational background
  • Minimum one (1) year of current Courier experience with FedEx or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s licence with no more than two violations or accidents in the past 24 months
  • DG specialist certification ability and willingness to complete all basic and recurrency training
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and coach team members
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, with good organizational ability
  • Knowledge of FedEx products, services, and Canadian Customs regulations considered an asset
  • Completion of the Personal Development Stream of Excel (preferred)
