Responsibilities

The Cake Decorator role covers a full range of bakery tasks centred around producing beautifully finished cakes to Costco’s standards. From slicing and layering to piping custom messages on special orders, each task contributes to the quality that Costco members expect at the bakery counter.

  • Frost and fill cakes using a spatula, applying filling between layers and garnishing by hand
  • Decorate cakes using pastry bags and various tips to create borders, figures, and written messages per Costco formulas
  • Read and fulfil member special orders, determining appropriate flavours, colours, and decorative patterns; contact members if instructions are unclear
  • Slice half-sheet cakes by hand using a 16″ knife or slicing machine and place on pre-cut cardboard cake pads
  • Prepare cheesecakes by removing from baking pans, applying toppings with a spatula, and garnishing per Costco formulas
  • Use specialty equipment including the whipping cream machine; slice fresh fruit for application to baked products
  • Box and store cakes by assembling pre-cut cardboard boxes, placing boxed cakes on wheeled racks, and transferring to the cooler, freezer, or wrapping area
  • Maintain cleanliness of the decorating area, following all safety and security procedures
  • Assist with other bakery duties and warehouse areas as needed, and provide prompt, courteous service to members

Requirements / Skills
