About the Role: Brokerage Representative I

As a Brokerage Representative, you’ll be responsible for processing customs clearance and confirming declarations for both non-complex and complex shipments, guided by the CCBS system and your own expertise. You’ll handle delivery service requests, manage import permits, and ensure proper documentation is gathered and submitted to the government as required. Assessing importation fees for international packages and performing general brokerage tasks are also central parts of this role.

Success in this position requires strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of Canadian customs laws and regulations, and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, carriers, and internal UPS teams. Responsibilities

Day to day, this role centres on customs processing and brokerage administration — ensuring shipments clear customs accurately and on time. You’ll be the point of contact for customers, drivers, and government offices, making communication and documentation accuracy critical to the job.

  • Process customs clearances and confirm declarations for shipments ranging from non-complex to complex using the CCBS system
  • Perform data entry tasks including opening customer files, validating information, and handling credit and invoicing
  • Collect supplementary documentation from customers, drivers, customs offices, and other relevant parties as needed
  • Identify discrepancies in customer profiles and address them appropriately
  • Answer standard inquiries from customers, drivers, and customs offices regarding shipments and procedures
  • Handle import permits and delivery service requests, and submit required documentation to the government
  • Assess all fees for the importation of international packages
  • Collaborate as a team member with clients, UPS SCS employees, carriers, and inbound agents

Requirements / Skills

UPS is looking for candidates who bring a solid foundation in customs operations and can work independently in a remote setting. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are key, along with comfort using computer systems and navigating regulatory frameworks.

  • 6 months to 2 years of experience in customs operations (preferred)
  • In-depth knowledge of customs laws and regulations, including the HS system and CUSMA (Canada-US-Mexico Agreement)
  • Experience in a call centre environment is an asset (preferred)
  • Customs Specialist (CCS) certification is considered an advantage (preferred)
  • Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, attention to detail, and time management skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent (preferred)
