About the Role: Area Manager, XLFC
As an Area Manager at Amazon Canada, you’ll be responsible for overseeing daily operations across Amazon’s three-part workflow: First Mile (product housing and order readiness), Middle Mile (order transport to your area), and Last Mile (delivery to the customer’s door). Each building has its own variations, but the constant remains Amazon’s commitment to its customers.
You’ll work closely with cross-functional support teams — including Safety, Ops Integration, Loss Prevention, and Human Resources — to develop and execute plans that meet business objectives. This is a physically active role that requires you to be present, engaged, and ready to lead in a variable environment that may include outdoor loading areas, refrigerated grocery spaces, and shift schedules that include overnight and weekend work.
Benefits and Salary
Amazon offers a competitive base salary ranging from $70,200 to $83,000 CAD annually for this position in Calgary, AB. As a total compensation company, the package may also include sign-on payments and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), with final compensation determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, basic life and AD&D insurance), a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), a Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), paid time off, and additional resources to support overall health and well-being.

Responsibilities
As an Area Manager at Amazon, your day-to-day work is as varied as it is impactful. You’ll be the on-the-ground leader your team relies on to keep operations running smoothly, safely, and efficiently across all stages of the fulfillment workflow. Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- Support, mentor, and motivate your team of hourly employees throughout each shift, fostering a culture of accountability and high performance
- Manage safety, quality, productivity, and customer delivery promises to ensure Amazon’s operational standards are consistently met
- Collaborate with support teams including Safety, Ops Integration, Loss Prevention, and Human Resources to develop actionable plans aligned with business objectives
- Maintain physical readiness for an active role — lifting up to 49 pounds, standing and walking during shifts of up to 12 hours, and performing physical tasks such as pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, reaching, and climbing stairs
- Adapt to variable working environments including areas with fluctuating noise levels, outdoor loading departments, and refrigerated grocery spaces
- Work a flexible schedule that may include weekends, overnight shifts, and holiday periods to support 24/7 fulfillment operations
Requirements / Skills
Amazon is looking for a driven, people-first leader who can balance the demands of a high-volume fulfillment operation while keeping their team engaged and empowered. The ideal candidate brings both people management experience and a genuine passion for operational excellence.
- 2+ years of employee and performance management experience — you know how to coach, develop, and hold a team accountable
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, OR 2+ years of Amazon blue badge/FTE experience in lieu of a degree
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends, nights, and holidays — this is a non-negotiable requirement of the role
- 1+ years of experience with performance metrics, process improvement, or lean techniques (preferred) — familiarity with Lean Six Sigma or Kaizen methodologies is a strong asset
- Experience managing teams of 20 or more people (preferred) — the ability to lead at scale is a significant advantage
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail (preferred), paired with effective communication and a passion for exceptional customer service
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain/Logistics, or a related field (preferred) — aligned directly with the operational nature of this role
